Right now I feel pretty confident they won't mess with the character designs because of the new merchandise. Why would they push a bunch of merchandise out with the familiar designs on them if they'd do something radically different for the new anime? Right now I feel like we're pretty safe when it comes to moe uguu designs.

I really want to believe that, I really do. But the fact that we've not seen any sort of promotional art for the series still makes me wary that we might get those type of kawaii uguu~ designs. If any of the character designers from the old anime are still in the business, I would much rather they get them back.

Unfortunately Kazuko Tadano, the lead character designer for the old anime, said in an interview that she wasn't contacted to work on the new series. I'm really, REALLY hoping Ikuko Itoh is on it in some way. Her episodes were what I wish the entire series looked like.

In fact, I'd be delighted if the new anime just had consistent art instead of having a different lead animator every episode (and no Masahiro Ando and his claw hands).

Awe, that's a shame. Do you have a link to the interview? I wonder if any of the other animators have said anything about not being contacted. Oh yes!!! I would love for Ikuko Itoh to work on the new anime. I love her style and her Sailor Moon episodes looked so good. Has she done anything recently?

Agreed. I'd love there to be consistency in the art.

Because then they can push identical merchandise...except the altered designs.
