What'd you like the most? I was just singing 'Frozen Heart'.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly adore the entire rest of the soundtrack, but yeah, Frozen Heart is probably my favorite.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, you honestly thought 'Fix-er-uper' was more memorable than this song?

For realz?

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
For realz. Fixer-Upper was catchy and had character. Let It Go just registered as generic power ballad. I like it more after listening to it more, but actually watching it in the movie, it just felt really forgettable.

I... think you have... very unconventional taste, OP.

ADDENDUM: I've listened to it a bit more since I made the secret, which has made me realize the bridge is gorgeous, and it's growing on me in general.

That song is my favourite in the soundtrack (along with Frode Fjellheim's Vuelie, but I'm pretty sure that was composed before the movie existed). Whatever song the trolls sing on the other hand could not keep my interest. On the whole though, I do think the Frozen soundtrack is great and I'm glad to see Disney is upping their game musically. It might not have the impact that the 90s soundtracks have (or maybe it will, who knows) but I loved it way more than the Tangled soundtrack. Man, was I disappointed in the Tangled soundtrack.

THANK YOU for posting that song name and artist(Frode Fjellheim's Vuelie)! I've been looking everywhere for that song!

My favorite is the ice guys breaking up the ice, I think it's "Frozen Heart".

All I know is I want it in Russian.

Overall, though, I thought the soundtrack was "meh"

Yep.

I was very unimpressed with the vast majority of the songs in the film. But that's been true for most of the recent Disney movies so...

Yeeeeeeeeeesssss. I loved "Frozen" and definitely see why some people think it signals a return to Disney Renaissance style musicals, but the only song that was legitimately on par with some of the best of Disney was "Frozen Heart".

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I had that same thought after the first time of listening to it. Strangely enough, it grew on me over time, and now I absolutely love it. (Then again, I adore the entire soundtrack, particularly Frozen Heart and both parts of For The First Time In Forever).

'Frozen Heart' was the only song in that entire movie that I actually remembered after I walked out of the theater.

[Frozen - haven't seen it, don't know what song pic is from. maybe "let it go"]

This was a great scene, I agree. The sense of power and exhilaration is really tangible and the fact she's trying to convince herself this is for the best is heartbreaking.

But I honestly thought this was musically the least memorable song in the whole movie.

Secret because apparently this song is the #1 reason to see the movie or something.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Even less than Olaf's unnecessary bit?

(Personally the troll song was my favorite.)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I gotta say, I hate the troll song. I mean, I can't even remember how the tune went, but I was squirming uncomfortably the whole time because:

A) There are few things that squick me as much as people being forced together by friends who Know Better (and yes, eventually Anna and Kristoph decided they liked each other, but watching them both try to say, "Stop, I don't want this right now" while the trolls just plowed right through all of their protests was just...*shudder* Ugh, no thank you).

B) Being engaged is not a flaw to be worked around. Implying that was just super-ultra-creepy. Implying that someone needs to be married or have a ring before it's Wrong to Come Between them is kind of messed up. Yes, a relationship can end whenever either party wants it to end. But if you've got a friend who likes someone, and that someone is in a relationship (even one you don't like), telling that friend to pursue them anyway is...ick.

C) They scooped it up at the end with a bit about how love doesn't change people because people don't really change, but there's still a whole lot of implication all through the larger part of the song that no, you can totally fix someone with love.

D) Let's talk about genitals and flashing women as courtship in a Disney cartoon!

The songs were one of my least favorite parts of the movie (but that's my same complaint with Tangled and Princess and the Frog too) but Let it Go was definitely the best of the bunch.

IMHO, Fixer Upper was just awful (I know it was important because it got the message of love across but they could have done that with a better song), Do You Wanna Build A Snowman was dull, First Time In Forever was good but ruined by the Reprise that was more Broadway than Disney, the love song that I can't even remember the name for was forgettable, and In Summer made me giggle but didn't do much else for me.

Let It Go was freaking awesome, Idina is beyond brilliant, and I already have it mostly memorized. But that's just me.

I love Let It Go, but I also really like the First Time In Forever (Reprise), though it reminded me of Miss Saigon and Ellen/Kim, just the way it was sung, so that might be why I like it.

I actually like the Fixer-Upper song (I mean it's not one I sought out after the film for a re-listen, but it's cute and catchy and gives you a little more insight into Christof).

Surprisingly I don't really care for Frozen Heart, which apparently makes me a minority on FS. XD

I loved 'Let It Go' but I think the rest of the soundtrack gets a little ignored, which is too bad because I liked it quite a lot. When 'Frozen Heart' started that was pretty much the moment I was like "Yeah...I'm gonna like this movie." I loved the soundtrack in general except the troll song, which would have been more tolerable I think if it had been about half as long and hadn't been stuck in right in the middle of the more serious part of the movie. (Also I'm kinda sad the longer version of 'Reindeers are Better than People' that's on the deluxe soundtrack didn't get played over the end credits because it amuses me way more than it probably should.)

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-01-09 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
I had the same feeling about Frozen Heart. It's quite striking.

I also love the Reindeer Remix and wish it had made it in. "Why didn't I get a real song...?" And We Know Better - I thought the sisters' relationship as children could have been established better in the movie, and if they'd fit that song in I think it would have helped enormously. Plus it's catchy as hell.

I love the song, but when I'm listening to it without the visual it's not as stunning and powerful, so I kind of agree, but I have way too much fun listening to "Love is an Open Door".

It's considered the best song in the soundtrack because it's Idina Menzel's solo and she's one of the most phenomenal singers ever to walk this earth. So yeah I can't say I understand your feelings at all OP.
