I have noticed lately that when it comes to fanwork being mostly male it's "it's mostly women who are mostly straight so it makes sense that they would want to focus on men" and when it comes to original media it's "men can't identify as easily with female characters as women can with male characters".

Is this another "fanfic is nothing but shipping" thing?

Can you blame people for assuming all fanfic is shipping? I mean, whenever I hop onto any archive, I'm lucky if the entire first three pages of results aren't the authors shipping these or those characters together.
