Well, the thing is, is that this isn't common for the US. There have been a lot of deaths because of this. Most of them being homeless people that didn't get help in time. That's kind of why it's a little, uh, tasteless for you to find it funny.

There are no homeless people in America. America is the richest country in the world and American Privilege is real so how would anyone be homeless???? lol!!!

I realize you're joking, but: Do people (American people) actually think this, on the Internet or otherwise? As in literally no homeless people, not just those who "don't count" for whatever someone considers a reason.

Oh, wow, I can see how my comment could be read as though i meant do all Americans think that, but that's not what I meant. What I did mean was: Out of the set [American people], is there a subset [American people who think there are no homeless people in America]? The overlap with the subsets [Very sheltered Americans] and [Very stupid Americans] would be large, of course.

Well, it's not common for *some* of the US. In the north/north coast area (Great Lakes), frigid cold like that isn't abnormal. But for a lot of the lower states it really is, and yes - the homeless and underserved are suffering from it.

Even in those areas, though, it's abnormally cold.

It's true, but at least they have more experience coping with it and a support system to weather it, for the most part.

It sucks most for the middle and southern states who not only aren't used to it but some literally don't have the means to cope with it. Hell, some people in warmer states don't own coats! Or decent boots. I can't imagine trying to scramble to find cold-weather gear for myself or, say, a whole family with kids in the 'Sunshine' state.

Or to try getting a space heater when they've all sold off the shelves. *shiver*

....how....how....I....wow.

Why would they need to?

I live in one of the few areas in the US with 'nice' weather right now--Southern California, and the forecast for next Monday is 79˚ F. I do own a couple of warm coats and some sweaters, though, because, since we can go years without temperatures ever dropping to freezing, our house doesn't have a heater and is very poorly insulated. And my heaviest coats are from when I had money and time to travel, and needed them for places with actual weather. My one pair of real weather-appropriate boots are worn-out and need replacing, though. I had friends growing up who didn't have raincoats, umbrellas, or warm clothes--they were poor and couldn't afford to go anyplace with snow or sustained cold weather. A couple of times we'd go to the mountains in winter when it snowed and we'd go raid thrift stores so everyone would have snow-clothes.

Yep. This is me. I just have tennis shoes and flip flops and some felt flats. I have some suit jackets and some jackets but no true coat. I can get from the car to the office just fine, but I would be SOL if I had to be outside for any length of time. I have very nice gloves however. LOL

Heeee. I've never lived anywhere where winter clothes wasn't a requirement. I can't really imagine.
