You mean other than the 9 million people who watched the S3 premiere? (that's a pretty big number for the UK)

...didn't they start at 18m, and drop to that number 1/2 way through? Or did they drop to 1/2 of 9m? (I don't have access to the stats, but a few anons here do.) And the 2nd episode apparently had worse ratings than The Blind Banker.

Nope. It dropped 1/2 million after the first 5 mins which is pretty normal and has now gone on to have the biggest catch up audience of all time(3.5m) with the final figures being nearly 13 million, which is massive for a drama.

The viewing figures for ep 2 were just slightly lower. The comparison with The Blind Banker is that they are lower than the total figures for that ep. Ep 2 had already gone from 8.8mil to 10.3 by wed.

The series is doing better than ever audience wise.

There are viewers and then there is fandom. I'm not sure we should conflate the two.

I guess not, but the fandom is seriously misrepresenting the reality of (if you will pardon the pun) the cold equations. I think it's safe to say no one on the Sherlock production team cares one bit about the numbers or the fans, they're just interested in their very healthy paychecks. However, if the numbers are dropping, that surely has to affect their bottom line, no matter how much noise the fandom makes on Tumlr.

Uh, bud, look at the thread you're in. We're talking about the feasibility of convincing fandom that John isn't in love with Sherlock, not the state of the show's success. You want a couple threads down.

Aren't we also discussing the popularity here as well? Same thing. Though whether or not the viewers should be lumped in with the tinhats from Tumblr, IDK. From all the noise Tumblr is making, it seems they are the only ones watching (or the only ones who have a positive attitude about it IDEK).
