That was my thought, but then, that sort of happened to me - a BNF essentially became a RL friend, and because of some admittedly stupid things she said/wrote, she got a lot of backlash. But she really wasn't as arrogant or entitled as she came across.

I went the opposite way, I thought for sure OP meant celebs.

I have this deep paranoia that FS is far smaller fishbowl than any of us realize and the people we write secrets about might actually BE here, having the anon time of their lives and trolling the crap out of us. Like all the ugly!anon secrets, or the two(?) trolls on the TNG secret a while back. You know, every time a secret comes up saying how great something is, there's one or two comments about how badly it/they/whatever sucks?

So. I have overthought this entirely too much.

What I got out of it was that it's a fandomer the person knows IRL, more so than someone at the focus of a fanbase... and if that's the case, depending on the situation can you make an anon post defending them without revealing they know them? Sometimes fandom takes things out of context, so maybe you could point out what they "probably" meant or whatever else.

I sort of know how you feel. I have a few friends who are occasionally and TV and stuff. I also have one frien who's like fanboying over another friend of mine. It's sort of weird.

Same here, though these days most of my semi-famous friends are writers. Although I go to the same high school as a popular teen idol of the day. (If you bought Tiger Beat in the mid-90s, you got a fold-out poster of him, that kind of thing.)

I know I'm a bit late to the party now but since everyone's asking for clarification--

My friends run a local con which is really well-known in our fandom. Anything that ever goes wrong with the con, the fandom blames my friends personally. I can never defend my friends without revealing con behind-the-scenes secrets, which is something I'm not supposed to know anyway because I'm not technically staff.
