Muhammed Ali.

I mean I wouldn't agree with OP there, but it's not as though the fact it's mandatory means you get to wash your hands of being complicit.

This.

I mean, I would say that the conclusion follows pretty much inevitably from the starting point - if you really do believe that the current Israeli policy is deeply and fundamentally wrong, then anyone who takes part in it is complicit in it. I'm not saying that it is wrong, but if you're someone who thinks that it really is wrong, I don't think it's a particularly surprising position to take. Even if it's mandatory, you still have a moral choice to make.

As a citizen of a country that also has mandatory military service, I think it just becomes a fact of life. The situation in Israel is of course unusually complicated, but that isn't a guarantee that every citizen is actively involved or even deeply aware of all the political currents at play, or how they are perceived internationally. The US has made various controversial decisions over the years, yet many US citizens can and do choose to be apolitical.

I'll just leave this here.

You could say that about paying the taxes that fund the drone strikes America has ordered.

You could, and it might lead to an interesting discussion.
