eBook recs?

So I've still got over $25 left on the B&N gift cards I got for Christmas, and I'm planning to use it on some eBooks. Does anyone have any recs? I tend to like sci-fi/fantasy with a good sense of humor, but I'm also a sucker for most things horse-related (surprise, surprise) and I wouldn't complain about YA recs, either. GLBT themes would be a bonus. I'd like to avoid books that deal heavily with rape or which are especially gory, though. I'm okay with blood, but I'm a total wimp when it comes to gore.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what sort of recs the denizens of f!s come up with.

I really like the 'Dragonback' series by Timothy Zahn: scifi, technically YA, very fun and fast-paced and clever.

'The Little White Horse' is a classic, man, and my favourite old-school fantasy novel of all time...just beautiful and mysterious and lyrical.

the 'Lost Fleet' series by Jack Campbell is one of my fave recent sci-fi series, not humorless although it IS militaristic and hard-scifi-ish, so not sure if it's your wheelhouse...all I know is that I and everyone in my family got no sleep reading them, 'cause we stayed up till the wee hours trying to finish each one.

'March Upcountry' series by John Ringo and David Webber is sci-fi/action/adventure, tho it has a wee bit of gore maybe? (they're space marines fighting their way across a primitive and hostile planet, so as they run out of ammo they switch to bladed weapons and such, so there's limbs hacked off and whatnot) Definitely a good dose of humor in them though, I laughed my head off at numerous points.

sa

also be aware that not all the gift cards cross over...I know some say "For NookBooks ONLY" or "For use on any product EXCEPT eBooks", so just check before you shop, haha. All the books I mentioned except 'The Little White Horse' I got at my local used book store for a steal (had trade-in credit too, aww yeeeeeaaaah)
