YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I love this secret.

Most likely Hans was hoping for an heir before anything happened to Anna (then he could be at least regent for their child). Otherwise, in a pinch, sometimes a ruler who has shown themselves awesome even though they don't rule by birthright is accepted by the people and government. Catherine the Great practically stole Russia and she was pretty good to it.

Alternatively, if it was an elective monarchy, a random foreigner might have actually stood a decent chance of being chosen--might indeed have been preferred over a candidate of the native nobility, each of whom might have been offensive to others for one reason or another. IIRC, this is how a French prince got elected King of Poland in the 16th century.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the bigger reason for that was that being King of Poland was such an awful job that no one wanted it.

I spent the entire movie asking who was running the place before Elsa was crowned and why they didn't step back in when she disappeared. It is not a film that stands up to questioning.

it was likely a regency ruling, elsa probably managed considering it was only 3 years. honestly this is a tad bit overthinking the film (not that I don't think frozen could have benefited from some more world building, it's pretty clear the film was rushed)
its like wondering how the people in BatB didnt realize their sole ruler/prince (who apparently was a child) went magically missing. how belle's dad didn't realize he was happening upon his castle etc
or how no one in corona manages to put 2 and 2 together to realize the long blonde haired girl with green eyes who looks remarkably like the baby in the mosaic was their lost princess

Not recognizing a young woman as the missing baby when the only reference you have is a mosaic is not even a little unrealistic. It would be considerably more unrealistic if she was very recognizable.

I'd agree if it weren't for the fact that she's legit the only blonde in the entire kingdom scene (which was probably done to make her stand out more, but still)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-11 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, even if blonds are super uncommon, I would still consider it a stretch that they would recognize a specific blond as the princess.

Or how no one else in the kingdom wears Cinderella's shoe size.
Or why the evil queen thought asking for a heart instead of the body of Snow White would confirm she was dead.
Or why the fairies couldn't wait an extra day to bring princess Aurora home or to use their magic.
Or that serect from a few weeks ago about incestous lions.

Sometimes you just have to let the little things go for the whole of the story.

oops, meant to reply to the person above you. was just adding to the list.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-12 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Asking for the whole body might be a bit much... just her head would have been sufficient. :)

YESSS CRUSADER KINGS 2. I had a recent game where I married my sister to the heir to the throne of England. A few years later, I checked to make sure they had a couple kids and I noticed the king had like three new sons even though his wife was past childbearing age. Then I checked and all three (all legitimized, mind) children were the offspring of the king...and his daughter. BEST GAME EVER.

I'm playing right now actually, although I'm playing the Game of Thrones mod.

I love it when you arrange a marriage for one of your heirs and then you look and see that the couple are now in love with each other. It's great. It's fantastic. It's a fantastic game.

Same, I just love it. In another game, I had a sister who got pregnant by her lover, who then apparently left her. I offered her hand in marriage to the King of Norway and she and her little son went off to live with him (which is funny considering the situation of the current Crown Prince and his wife!) Six years later and they have four kids together and are in love, and the king is tutoring her bastard son. It was beautiful to see :')

Oh my gosh! Me too! I had ALL OF THESE THOUGHTS.

I love CK2 so much. When I'm not actually playing it I'm watching Arumba play it on YouTube. I need an intervention.
