It's when someone makes heavily implied Homosexual overtones and then backs out at the last minute. IE:baiting. Although this term is overused a lot in certain spaces when it comes to slash fans. Sometimes two guys aren't going to hook up, no matter how hard you write your metas.

To clarify, queerbaiting is theoretically an effort to attract a queer audience by trying to make it seem possible if not likely that things on the show could actually go beyond subtext. The problem is, 9/10 instances of slash fans whining about it is because they mistakenly think mainstream American shows give a shit about appealing to a queer audience instead of having finally cottoned on to the existence of droves of (often straight) fangirls who will flock to subtext and pour in their time, attention and money while confusing their own titillation with doing something that actually matters for queer rights.
