He doesn't ship Kirk/Spock. That and the whole fanfic thing which I didn't think it was as tertible as fandom made it out to be. Was it a bit douchey? Yeah. Doesn't make him an irredeemable douchbag in my eyes.

I'm having trouble understanding why somebody, anybody, not shipping a pairing is a sign of douchery. That's kind of a stupid thing to get mad about.

I think it is more for his views on fanfic/fandom but a lot of people seem pissed that he doesn't ship Kirk/Spock. It just stupid.

It's not because he doesn't ship something, it's because he was pretentious about it. Like he was above fanfic writers.

I remember the incident and he came off as 'holier than thou' and he really looked down on fandom.

he was nicer than I would have been in his shoes, tbh
those fans are idiots. He had said it plenty of times that he isn't interested about fanfictions and slash and he had always been polite but people don't get the clue and keep harassing him about it over twitter and the live chats too. They have no sympathy from me if they took is so bad maybe he hit a nerve, after all, and they should get a life or at the very least grow up. But you know it's not like they got the message since days later they asked him about Pinto all over again.

to sum up the crazy mofos in that fandom:
he's a ass because people ship him with chris pine and they think that because he's gay then Spock is gay too and because he's gay then he should ship kirk/spock slash because it's an old thing that invented slash and he should like pinto and droll over porn fanarts of him and his friend f**king that they show him and appreciate the fact that someone took his audio book of the first movie and turned it in slash porn and he's supposed to feel glad that people imply he can't play a straight character (spock is the character with a girlfriend) because gay actors can never do that convincingly, ya know?

The fanfic thing isn't just that he doesn't like it; he's actually said derogatory things about the authors. He has also said stuff along the lines of people who are his fans because of Trek aren't true fans, that only his Heroes fans are or something like that. He also used to say some pretty homophobic stuff in interviews for Heroes as a smokescreen before he came out years later.

I'm not LGBT, but I imagine that if someone is closeted there is an element of fear related to that decision. Fear of physical retaliation, fear of familial abandonment, fear of losing jobs, etc. The homophobic stuff sucks, but there's a legitimate reason to give him the benefit of a doubt and assume he was frightened.

The stuff about fanfic authors is pretty douchey though. Like, let the people have their fun, dude. No need to be a dick about it.
