Re: If you could delete just one incident from a canon, what would it be?

FFXII - the conversation between Venat and Vayne just before the last battle. It didn't make any sense in the context of the rest of the game, unless Vayne was actually thinking he was fooling Venat, which seems unlikely. It seemed really obvious early on that Vayne never had any intention of becoming a new Dynast-King - he was setting himself up as a villain so that after he was rightfully defeated, his brother would have the entire land of Ivalice as his own empire (never mind that that wasn't what Larsa wanted). So Vayne's all like "I've failed, I will never be your Dynast-King" and ... seriously, at least Venat didn't pretend that was what she/he/whatever wanted, because it was pretty obvious there were ulterior motives there too. But I found Vayne's line there really stupid, considering he was already mortally wounded. And then Venat joining with him for the obligatory mutant final boss form was just silly.

I am pretty darned sure that Matsuno left the game's development before that scene was finalized, and someone else wrote something that he never intended to even imply and would have shot down immediately if he was still around. :P (I also suspect Balthier and Fran were supposed to die, but the Squenix head honchos were like "No no no you can't kill everyone in a MAIN SERIES FF game, dude! Save it for your indie stuff!" But since I like Balthier and Fran and their survival wasn't entirely implausible, I'm okay with how things wound up. Just not that last battle.)
