Sisco coming back was one of the few things I liked about the DS( relaunch novels.

I've never read the DS9 novels b/c I didn't like the TNG ones - how do the DS9 ones hold up? Are they well written? Are they on the same level of awesome as the show?

They don't retcon away the finale, do they? Despite wanting Sisko back, I thought the ending was 99% perfect and would be upset if they messed with it too much.

There were some good parts and some bad parts. Overall they were better written than most of the TNG books, and there was consistency to them. No, they don't retcon the final. I don't like some of the plot ideas they went with, but it did feel like it could have been a season on the show.

Good to know. I might give them a try, once I pare down my reading list a bit. Any you'd recommend (or warn about?)

Thanks!

I'd actually start with the first and read them in order. They really do read like episodes, so if you miss one it kind of goes off the rails.

Which are best probably depends on which character you like. If you like Garak, Stitch in Time is good, but if you aren't a fan you can probably skip that one since its one of the few standalones.

Personally, I really liked the 4 Mission Gamma books. You really get to know some of the new characters, I like the different plot threads, and they were the ones that captured most the general Trek feel.
