Rationalize it all you want; I'll always believe there was something fishy going on behind the scenes regarding that double standard.

That's your right. But there are other just as valid explanations for the scene. I don't know what was in the mind of the writer. It's possible he was mocking gays, but it's just as likely they were mocking fans and their theories generally especially since part of the episode was all about poking fun at all the wild theories about what happened on the roof none of which were treated particularly seriously.
