Yes.

Speaking as someone who was dealing with grief depression after my father's (only parent's) death and having difficulty even getting myself to call the Veteran's Administration about his benefits afterward, let alone dealing with the rest of his estate, final bills and taxes, etc., I can say I'm really puzzled by the somewhat heartless opinions raised upthread that Buffy as a 20-whatever-year-old, should just "deal" with having a little sister to parent, bills she was drowning under, and Saving the World after her daytime scuzzy job, not to mention the Heaven/Hell undead thing.

I don't necessarily blame Giles if he wanted a life of his own, but if his only motivation was making her "grow up," then, boy, did he miss the mark. I am a grown-up with no kids and a regular job and no financial woes, and I couldn't have gotten through that time without the full support of my friends, which Buffy's certainly were not (supportive, that is). Grief is hard. Depression is hard. Life is fucking hard sometimes, and telling people to just suck it up is not the path to health.

IMHO, anyway.
