It's not that complicated =- gay actors think they won't get cast for roles because the higher ups think the entire female audience won't fantasize about a homosexual.

Given the tons of slash fanfic out there, the ship wars, and the fact that some shows have acknowledged slash in-universe (Supernatural), it's not that obvious.
