I wouldn't kick the box. If it's a coon, they can rip your face off.

Do you have animal control in your area? Will they trap raccoons? Or pick up that one since he's in a box already?

It's one of those plastic stackable drawer things you can get at walmart. There's also a pet fence thing, it was a kitten safety zone during kitten time, and I never took it down. There is no way a flimsy plastic drawer is going to keep that thing contained, even if we did have some kind of animal control out here.

If there turns out to be something wrong with it, sadly it's going have to get same medical treatment dieing cows out here have to deal with. A bullet to the head.

Oh, okay; I wasn't sure if it was a storage type thing or not.

I grew up on a farm; I understand and support a bullet to the head to end suffering if necessary.

It really sucks, because I remember we used to have a vet that would do farm calls when I was really little. He retired, and no one ever replaced him, which is something we really need out here.

I also remember one of those first delightful little moments I like to call "The horrors of growing up on a farm." not long after the vet retired we had a cow, I don't remember exactly what the problem was, but it was very sick. One of it's eyes was swollen horribly, and infected by something. Dad kept it separated from the other and tried to treat it, but it got to the point we knew the cow was going to die. Se he went out there with a rifle and shot it between the eyes. It just stood there and stared at him.(I'd like to take this opportunity to admit my brother and I were supposed to be in the house, and not watching this.) He shot it again, same thing. After the third time, her finally went and tried shooting it through the ears. That finally killed it. We had it taken away, and examined to see what was wrong with it.(we do fortunately still have people who will do that.) A few weeks later we got a call, Like I said I don't remembered exactly what it had, but whatever was wrong with its eye had caused a mass to grow protecting its brain when Dad tried to put it out of its misery.

That's such a sad story. Poor cow. And how sad for your Dad.

My brother was the one who took care of the sick animals on our farm, since Dad was usually away for work. We had a pair of pet raccoons that someone poisoned, even though we kept them in a pen where they couldn't get out (really, my Dad built and welded the cage to make it coon-proof). They were suffering pretty bad, and my brother shot them to end it.

awwww It really sucks that someone would do that to animals that obviously can't cause a problem. :(

I found a nest of sparrows once, and couldn't put them back in the tree. They were so tiny there was no way they would make it on there own, so I tried raising them myself after looking stuff up on the internet about sparrows. They did really well, which is surprising considering before that we'd never been able to keep things like parakeets alive more than a month. I called them One, Two, Three, and Fat Albert. After they started flying I let them go. I have no idea what happened to them after that, but Grandpa never shot at sparrows again, because he'd never know if they were mine or not. I still don't get why he was ever shooting at sparrows in the first place.

It was very sad, because they weren't bad, for coons, and we kept them contained.

Awww, baby sparrows.
