I agree that cons can be expensive which is why I was curious what they cost now because I thought it was pretty reasonable a few years ago. I also was fortunate enough to live close by so I was able to just drive from home.

You're welcome. The few times I was able to attend on a day ticket and travel from home, it was far easier and far, far cheaper. :(

I'm not a regular con-goer, but I suspect a lot of the costs aren't related to cons themselves so much as the costs surrounding them. Even if a ticket is "only" $50, there's still the cost of travel and lodging, and depending on the size of the con and how many other people are also around looking for lodgings, it can be pretty hard to find someplace to stay.
