I absolutely loved AWA the year I went, but it was the people I was with and we had such a great time.

Which is why I'd be worried about jumping back into it without knowing someone who would also have a lot of fun.

I also would want to be a tourist and do the whole San Diego fun stuff so I don't know if that would be too much to squeeze in one weekend. Maybe I'll just wait until a friend moves to San Diego so I can crash at their place.

Having been to San Diego when there isn't a convention, I can tell you a weekend is not enough time to do both.

If I was to do San Diego at a time not during the con, what would be some places you'd recommend?

It's been over a decade since I went, but Chinatown and the Boardwalk stand out in my mind. We didn't have time to get to Alcatraz, which I really wanted to see. If you have time for a day trip, DEFINITELY go see the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose (one-two hours away), because the architecture is incredible, not to mention...well, you have to see it to understand. The zoo is pretty amazing (someplace else we didn't get to, but my friend likes to show off her photos semi-regularly).

Alcatraz and San Jose are near San Francisco, which is way north of San Diego.

I actually did San Francisco two and half years ago and yeah, Alcatraz was pretty awesome. I want to go Winchester Mystery House next time I make it to San Jose.

*mumbles* All those California towns look alike to me

Sorry. I did mean San Fran...I get town names mixed up pretty easily.
