Conventions?

Is anyone planning to go to one this year? If so, which one and who do you plan on seeing? Are you going to cosplay, buy anything there, or go to any particular event?

I've been going to a convention in Hawaii for several years. It's the only one we have here that's well known. But I have no access to what's on the mainland or even outside of the U.S. If I decide to move, I would love to know what else is out there that people have checked out.

I might go to Anime St. Louis because it's fairly cheap and I'm close, but it really depends on if I have friends going or not. Cosplay isn't my thing, so no, but I might buy some stuff there.

There are four "large" cons I have been going to every year, which I plan to attend this year too!

- Katsucon, next month - near DC, in a luxury resort hotel with a huge hot tub with a waterfall in it, and an indoor atrium with trees and a river running through it. Beautiful venue, great vacation spot, and I get to see all my east coast friends. Planning on cosplaying from Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (yes really), Vagrant Story, and Tiger & Bunny for sure... maybe some other stuff.
- Anime Central, in May - my birthday con every year since 2003, in Chicago. I get to see all my midwestern friends at this one, plus some of my east coast friends come out. So far definitely planning on doing a new Ace Attorney costume, but not sure what else.
- Otakon, late summer, in Baltimore - another chance to see my east coast friends and take a nice summer vacation down south. There's been talk of Suikoden and Zelda groups, but it's so far off at this point that a lot of people's plans might change.
- Youmacon, late fall, in Detroit - sort of my "hometown" con, as it's the only really big con in my state, and another awesome venue, as it's held in GM's global headquarters and the hotel is 75 floors high. :D Definitely doing Final Fantasy XII and possibly Shadow of the Colossus with one of my friends, and we'll see what else we all come up with throughout the year...

Then there's Shutocon and JAFAX, which are closer than any of the above, but also small, so they don't require much planning, and I pretty much just sort of decide the weekend of the con whether or not I feel like making the drive on a particular day. Shuto has been fun the last couple of years, and I've still somehow never managed to go to JAFAX due to schedule and/or health problems, but hoping to make it this year.

Not planning on seeing anyone in particular at any of these cons except my friends, and there's no merch for the stuff I'm into, and the events are usually sort of annoying to get into because you have to wait in line forever. I'm just going to wear costumes and hang out with my friends and enjoy the fancy hotels and con atmosphere.

My best friend and I went to DragonCon in Atlanta every year for 13 years. It's fucking awesome, although expensive. We moved across the country this year though, and who knows when I'll be able to go back :(

I'll be going to Life, the Universe, and Everything in Provo, UT, next month.

There's the Salt Lake ComicCon FanXperience in April, with a fuckton of celebs.

There's WesterCon/CONduit in July in downtown SLC.

There should be a Salt City Steamfest in Layton around August.

We should get the regular Salt Lake ComicCon in September.

I don't even have to go out of state this year. I go mostly for the writing stuff, and have graduated from attending panels to being on them now that I'm getting published.

I'd like to go to World Fantasy, but it's very spendy; I might just save my money and go to WorldCon in Spokane in 2015.

Last year I went to MisCon and got All The Things signed by Jim Butcher, who is a really nice guy.

Currently attending Anime Los Angeles. The only other convention I plan on going to this year is Anime Expo. I eventually want to attend other anime cons, like Pacific Media Expo and Fanime.

I'm definitely going to the one I've been going to for years now. It's a local con that I enjoy, both bad years and good years. Mainly because I get to hang with my friends there. Though Friday night may be off for me due to my job being a night shift job...unless I can finagle a floating holiday for it. >_>

the next one I might try for is this new anime con that sprang up...2 years ago? First year I heard was bad, but the second was MILES better. But I'm nervous in going cause I'm not as into anime as I used to be and I only watch anime now if it just REALLY happens to grab my attention. That and they keep getting freakin' Vic McNuggets as a con guest. B/

I miss going to the anime con in the next big city over, though...it was BIG, fun, and had THE LARGEST FREAKIN' MERCH HALL EVER (well, for a local con, yeah, compared to the BIG cons, it's most likely puny, but still MERCH. MERCH EVERYWHERE).

Every year I plan to go to at least one PAX. And I don't, even though I live very close to Seattle. I do go to E3 every year, and I was supposed to get to MAGFest last week but didn't. Next year though!
