They aren't obvious to me. If you write "the sky is blue" I'm not going to assume you find that pretty just because you could have possibly meant that. That's not "quibbling semantics."

You must be terrible at reading between the lines then, because it seemed obvious to me that the comment in question was one of personal opinion, so I did not not need it to be said "It is my opinion...".

But then I see this happen around here quite a bit. Someone will say something, and then some Anon will quibble about exact wording in a way that feels to me like they are nitpicking the minute detail that I already thought was obvious.

Well, I don't feel comfortable inserting some hidden meaning in another person's words when they haven't explicitly stated it. If that makes me "terrible at reading between the lines," so be it.

I guess that's the thing, I don't think it's hidden. I merely think they intended it to be understood as their opinion but did not think it needed to be explicitly said.

I say this from personal experience, when I have said something and then had someone nitpick what I thought was an obvious statement.

But you're doing that by insisting that 'sounds like' is the same as 'is'. I've never known it to be used that way. It's used as the same as 'is likely the way I see it' and 'rhymes with' (albeit in charades).

Your semantic argument is flat out wrong.
