Wow, this is gorgeous. Is the artwork on the inside as beautiful? I might have to find a copy.

This o_O! I've never seen this edition before.

The art inside is a different style, but I still think it's good.

So does this mean you haven't seen the first two movies yet, OP? They seem to be very hit or miss with people.

Somehow I look at this cover and cannot stop hearing Gandalf's eyebrows rustling against his hat.

I suspect you'll be more "suicidal" than "disappointed". It felt like half of the first movie was small things running through large, blurry caverns. And the second had some unnecessary action scenes thrown in for the hell of it.

The first movie sucked. The second warrants a fairly heartly "meh" at best. They seem more like they're loosely based on a videogame inspired by the books than being adaptions of the books themselves...

Or you might not, OP! As previously mentioned, opinions are divisive, but you have to make that decision for yourself.

I suspect you'll be more "suicidal" than "disappointed".

Yeah lets just throw around mental health issues when talking about not liking how a movie went. That sure is mature and shit.

Here's the art for the cover: http://www.donatoart.com/gallery/hobbit.html
and here' an example from the inside: http://borgdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/the_hobbit-049.jpg

Thank you very much, anon! Donato Giancola's work is glorious. And it also contains his sketches and unfinished works, aaaahhhh.

Um, wtf, I was advertised one Bilbo and delivered a completely different one. What happened here?

I love how it makes Bilbo look like a child, I feel like the hobbits should look more childlike than they do in the films.

I don't. I like that though they're short, adult hobbits look like, well, adults. I part of me still handwaves Elijah Woods' youth as being the effect of the Ring halting Frodo's aging (but then I cling hard to bookverse timelines that say there's 17 years between Bilbo's 111st birthday and when Frodo leaves the Shire for Rivendell).

I just like that it's more faithful to the source material; in the books they're described as child-like.

Yeah, I like Freeman's Bilbo but I totally agree.

Exactly, I don't dislike the filmverse hobbits but I would've liked to see them go closer to the source material.
