Re: Small things in fic that drive you insane

The giggling thing bothers me too, but for me it's annoying unless it's a child. I don't even know grown women who giggle. To me it's more of a young or childish type of laughter. Or drunk/high.

Having a character smoke in fic for no apparent reason when they don't smoke in canon. I just don't understand why and I hate it. Even if they give some random plot reason it still annoys me, to be honest.

On that note, random recreational drug use. Particularly if it's not tagged.

Giggling annoys me, but I just really don't like the word moreAny other reason.

Yes. I wouldn't write about men giggling unless they were acting very silly and childish, which would be IC for some characters but very OOC for others.

I'm okay with characters smoking when the canon is set in like the 60s, where it can reasonably be assumed people smoke even if it's not shown in the actual canon. Other than that, yeah, it's weird.

Agreeing hard the recreational drug use thing. I have no desire to read about characters smoking pot, because all morals or whatever aside, people who are high act pretty goddamn stupid. Unless it's crack, I don't know why anyone wants to read about that.

I like using "Giggle" to mean a cute, cheerful higher-pitched laugh for my female characters in RP. Both of them are adults, one of which is older than the world, the other is somewhere between 9000 and 12000 years old, but is naive and innocent in some ways. I don't use it for my male characters though.

I'm a middle aged woman who giggles. My Mom giggles, too, and she's 30 years older than me. I've never heard a guy giggle, though.

Of course, my Mom and I both have high-pitched voices, so maybe that's why? (I mean, both of us get asked if our mothers are home by telemarketers. -_-;;)
