Agreed so hard on all of these, but especially the fourth one. Homophonia is fucking serious and shouldn't be fucking used in your story to derail characters, particularky female characters, just to show how they're oh so fucking horrible and just to use to push your ship together. It is usually a horrible combination of sexism, totally missing the fucking point, and romanticizing a fucking terrible thing for ship war bullshit. I just can't deal with it.

Or, just as bad, making a character's unseen parents eeeeeeevil homophobes when no such thing is ever suggested in canon and the character shows no signs of being raised by such people. AUs do NOT magically fix this.

I can't stand that either. It's particularly bad when the character's parents are dead in canon and they bring them back just so they can be homophobic asshats in the fic. Just argh. There are other ways to cause conflict and get your damn otp together without resorting to homophobic bullshit.

Is this shit still as pervasive as it it once was? Or has it cooled down a bit? Most of my fandoms are old so I see this come up often in older fic from the early 00's. It was pretty popular in anime/manga fandoms particularly.

You bet your ass it's still pervasive. I've read about half a dozen of them so far in the past few months and that's why I ranted about it. From the way they write it, gay rights haven't progressed past the 50s and 99% of straights have a 'gaybash!' switch ready to flip.
