It is pretty normal, you did not kill anyone so why should it ruin your day/life/week? Do your job with all the respect and care you can, and that is all you have to do, you can't let everything in, because you will not last in a job like that doing it.

I have a friend who works* in the terminally ill departement in a nursing home, and she sits with patients dying every day, but when she gets home she isn't sad about it, because her job is to take care of the patients, not to be sad that they are dying. Not that they never, ever have any effect on her, but mostly it is "just" a job and she is used to it.

*Nurses aid I think is the English name for her job?
