I'd love to see a female-led Marvel show/movie, but I really can't stand Peggy. Her shooting at Steve because another girl came onto him to show what a "Strong Female Character" she was was just disgusting.

This! I really hate how that scene tends to get glossed over or ignored by the fandom.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-12 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
In fairness, when Peggy came on the scene, she has no way of knowing that Pvt. Lorraine was the one who'd come on to him. His hands had settled at her waist and he was kind of kissing back by that point.

Still an overreaction, but.

I know what she thought, but like you said, it was an extreme overreaction which made her seem more like a scorned schoolgirl instead of a professional and mature military woman.

And if it had been the actions of a male lead you'd be falling all over about his beautiful angst.

SHE WAS TESTING THE FUCKING SHIELD.

This.

For fuck's sake, he had a BULLETPROOF SHIELD that she KNEW WOULD PROTECT HIM and also she is a COMIC BOOK CHARACTER who is OTHERWISE DECENT

(Anonymous) 2014-01-13 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
IIRC, there was no way of knowing that the shield would protect him, since it was still untested at that point. Not to say she's not a decent person overall, but that part was...ugh.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-18 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
They were in a testing area, FFS. Do you really think any of those shields couldn't take a bullet considering Stark had them made for Steve to use to protect himself from HYDRA tech?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-13 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
da

Are you kidding? If a man suspects a woman of cheating on him, gets pissed, and fires a round of bullets in a fit of anger at a supposedly-invulnerable (but still untested) shield she's carrying, you know people on the internet would be in an uproar about how "unhealthy" the relationship is.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-13 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, seriously. I can't even begin to imagine what tumblr would do if captain america did something that (I for one would would weep bitterly)

I still like Peggy though and just kind of ignore that part. Lord knows I've given free passes for dumber scenes

I actually didn't much like that scene either, though I like the character. Or maybe, I like the /potential/ of the character. I think that the best way to write her would be to back off on the Strong Action Girl thing a bit and just make her more competent and professional.
