Tumblr and/or social justice in and of themselves aren't fandoms, unfortunately.

Re: Small things in fic that drive you insane

1. Gender-neutral pronouns. (I'd give this one a pass if the character to whom it was applied has ever expressed a desire for it in canon, but not just because the author likes to aggressively use gender-neutral pronouns.) This one will not only kick me out of a fic, but will also cause me to hit the back button and decline to follow otherwise cool Tumblr users in a big hurry.

2. Profoundly out-of-place references (i.e., Dean Winchester making a reference to "Father Christmas" or telling Sam to get something out of the "boot" of the Impala.)

3. Canonically reserved, gruff, stoic types acting whiny, simpering, helpless, clingy, etc. Special dispensation may be given in cases of severe illness or other circumstances which might plausibly alter a character's normal behavior, or if it's blatantly being played for comedic effect.

4. Pop culture references that are not only not in the source material, but which clash painfully with its theme or atmosphere. Dean listening or referring to a specific classic rock band wouldn't be a problem for me--that's something Dean canonically does, all the time--but Dean listening to Barry Manilow or Tom Jones definitely would.

Number three oh my god. When this happens with certain characters I have to question if the person writing the story has actually seen or played the source material.
