Notes:
Tumblr and/or social justice in and of themselves aren't fandoms, unfortunately.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-13 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)I'll echo what the others said. One of the best ways to get to know other writers is to review, review, review. If someone doesn't respond, then that's their issue. But that's always how I've made fellow writer friends before. Also, even if it's someone you go ga-ga over, remember they're just a regular person. In fact, I've noticed that the "BNF"s you actually want as friends tend to consider it a relief to talk to someone who isn't constantly gushing. Occasional gushing is fine, though. ;) The best times I've had is when things end up as a mutual admiration society.
I'll also echo that as long as your story has been spellchecked and at least has some attempt at proper grammar, you'll be head and shoulders above many writers in fandom. I was actually chased out of my first attempt at joining a fandom via fic, but I rallied, tried again with another fandom, and presto! I'd found where I was meant to be.
So, be patient, be persistent, and most of all, don't be afraid to start up a conversation. Those who are looking for friends will happily chatter back. If someone's not looking for friends? Their loss.
