Yeah, the romance only went FUBAR during Revenge of the Sith. They were able to play a flirting couple but they were very boring and soppy when they were married and Padme was pregnant with the twins.

I still seethe that Padme died from 'heartbreak'. I mean, they could've said that she died from complications from bring thrown to a rock ground while heavily pregnant, but noooo, she died from heartbreak of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side. I heard that they retcon that but it still make me seethe that they even put that in in the first place. I mean, she was a person since she was a girl who had fight to get her voice heard and her authority respected. Not to mention 'death by heartbreak' in the media is almost always used for women to fridge some in some way.
