Um...it's...anime. And, just from the look so far (as i have never seen this show), it MIGHT be a shoujo one, which usually has overly dramatic reactions to things of that nature.

Even crushes on people you don't even know that well can break your heart. Teenagers and hormones are always overdramatic.
