This. I've seen a lot of BBT-aimed flack, especially here. It seems to be kind of polarizing.

da

But the only "controversy" I've seen BBT generate has been in a fandom setting, i.e. here. Off the Internets I dare say it's not a controversial thing to like at all. It's about as mainstream as, say, Friends was. (and I say this as someone who doesn't really watch any TV, let alone sitcoms)

It's not controversial (in the sense that no one's going to be getting into big arguments about it). But I think there's plenty of people who dislike it or think it's unfunny or lowest-common-denominator without being up in arms about how it misrepresents nerds or whatever.

Yeah, I'd agree. I haven't really heard people getting in arguments about it-- but that's mostly because the people I've heard talking about it unanimously agree about how much they dislike it. And some of them because they think it stereotypes people obnoxiously, or is genuinely full of awful people, and others just because they think it's terribly unfunny.

True. I guess when people talk about how controversial something is in a secret I assume they mean "controversial in fandom" because...that's the major medium in which many people here talk share their interests.
