Problem with your preference is that you don't want bleak and depressing, but you also hate romance. Not saying the two are mutually exclusive, but the former category is more likely to leave out romance than the 'lighter' works. Unless you opt for comedy or children's lit, neither of which are often found in dystopian literature.

There was a tonne of romance-free, or mostly romance-free post-apocalypse for YAs when I was growing up (mostly about the aftermath of a nuclear war, but the occasional plague thrown in for a change) when I was growing up, but it was all pretty damn miserable. Although OP might like some of John Christopher's books (one or two of them have a romance, but they mostly don't, or it's not too prominent).
