It's been awhile since I read that scene so maybe I'm remembering it wrong but in the book her husband learned her words for yes or no and didn't have sex with her until she said yes. I'd agree that she was too young.

The tv version was rape.

Why are you being upset with her for this? Shouldn't you be upset with her husband, her brother, the man that basically set them up?

It was still rape, IMO, just less brutal than it had to be. Dany deciding not to fight the inevitable after she was literally sold to Drogo and making the best of a bad situation is not the same as consent.

I was so disappointed with the movie scene. yes, it was still arguably rape either way, but at least the scene in the book gave her some control over the situation.

comment upthread says that GRRM liked the movie scene better. :|

Ugh to the author. I read somewhere he didn't like the Dany casting choice either.
