I'm pretty sure believing in the kind of god entity that cares whether you go to church at all instead of just being a decent, good person is the first mistake you're making.

Trust me, I don't actually think for a minute that God cares. I think God loves everyone, no matter what. It's just that due to being around so many people who'd say otherwise, I sometimes have moments where I worry I'm wrong. But then I think exactly what you said.

I... kinda get what you mean.

Like, I think the idea that God cares whether I wear short-shorts or a floor-length dress is B.S., but having grown up where a LOT of people had those kind of ideas, it can be difficult to disentangle yourself from that way of thinking.

If it helps... I try to remember that God is a whole lot bigger and incomprehensible than that. And that often these kind of concerns reflect the way people have projected themselves onto God.

Exactly. It helps that my family's not at all like that, we don't even go to Church, just... a lot of people I am around. It's like the number thirteen - you know it's a silly superstition, but enough people talk about it that sometimes you go, "but what if...?"

And I absolutely agree with you on the last point. That's why my religious convictions aren't very strong - I know what I believe, but I also know it's simply what I believe. Even if I'm right, I can't be 100% right, because I can't possibly be an expert on God. No one can.
