But having sex with yourself (assuming attraction isn't an issue) isn't edgy or daring? It's the dream "safe option", removes all the anxiety and awkwardness people tend to have when it comes to intimacy. Who's more intimate to you than yourself?

Now if the question had been "would you have sex with a total stranger" and the majority went hell yeah, then you'd have a reason for skepticism.

Plus weren't most of those comments anonymous? Other than trolls, who bothers lying in anonymous comments?

You really think there is no possible awkwardness to be mined with having sex with a person who has your face? No "wow I had no idea I looked/smelled/sounded like that" to be had? Maybe this is a low blow, but what do you suppose the collective self-esteem of this place is? I don't think people know themselves as well as they think they do as a general rule. Boning yourself would be the ultimate demonstration of that.

Your last point is just weird to me, I'm pretty sure people have sex with virtual strangers all the time. At least that behavior has precedent... I think I just identified why this discussion is stupid.

The anxiety in intimate situations comes from the fact that you're afraid your shortcomings, bodily or otherwise, would be exposed and then someone other than yourself would know about them (and worse, might tell even more people). These feelings are not entirely rational, but have basis in our struggle to trust other people with those details about ourselves.

I'm going to assume that in an encounter with yourself, these fears aren't an issue because you either already know all these things or if you discover something new (and really, how shocking could these discoveries be?), there's at least no danger of the news being spread. So it doesn't matter what the state of "the collective self-esteem of this place" is, because intimacy with yourself, even a hypothetical external version, is self-enclosed. You don't have to worry about the unpredictability of your partner's reaction. Maybe you come away with a few knocks to your self-image, but that's easily more preferable than a few knocks to your self-image and other people knowing about it.

Please, are you being intentionally obtuse? Virtual sex doesn't have anywhere near the same baggage as a real life sexual encounter. You've been arguing that body image is an obstacle to intimacy, which is true (I'm saying it's less a problem in the dream scenario). Making things "virtual" removes many, if not all of those deterrents, and that's exactly why a lot of people do it instead of going out hooking up with strangers.

Okay no one curr anymore, but I didn't have internet for a while and I just can't let this slide.

vir·tu·al
[vur-choo-uhl]
adjective
1. being such in power, force, or effect, though not actually or expressly such: a virtual dependence on charity.

I didn't mean cyber sex. I meant "what essentially amounts to strangers".

Okay, I'm out. Thank you for humoring me even though you disagreed.
