I feel the same way as the OP, but I tend to seperate the new fans into "New Fans" and "Fanbrats". The fanbrats are the ones who refuse to acknowledge anything before Nine, because none of the old DOctors were 'hot'. I love that there's new fans in the fandom, but the fanbrats who hang shit on Classic Who can be quite insulting to those of us who love Classic AND New Who.

I know, I know and I don't mind when you differentiate, but... well the OP doesn't seem to and that pisses me off.

I understand where the OP is coming from. My mom was a Doctor Who fan before I was even born (she's got a DW fanclub shirt that older than I am), I was raised on the classics. I grew up idolizing Tom Baker and even made my mom knit me a scarf to match his.

Then the new series started and suddenly there were all these NEW fans, people who had never heard of the series before, and I thought it would be good to see Doctor Who get some REAL exposure. And while a lot of good people came out of the new fandom, ten times the amount of bad came from it. It was frustrating because for every awesome new person you met there were 394823905 idiots swooning over the kiss between Jack and Nine or how they wanted to be Rose or WHATEVER. My sister got into the series and now I can't even watch the episodes with her because she never stops drooling over Ten (honestly, I still like Nine over Ten) and complaining about Martha.

It's people like her that lower my faith in fandom.

But again, the mainstreaming of DW did bring a lot of awesome people into fandom. You just have to slog through thousands of idiots to find them.

Yeah. I'm not in the fandom so to speak but I am into Doctor Who (and have liked it before its present incarnation) but to say that the new fans are all batshit is completely unfair. -_-

Anyway, there are plenty of freaking insane older fans of Doctor Who as well, so double cock for them. XD

I agree! Any fandom has its crazies.... and the newer it is; the more likely you'll find fans of it ~~on the internet~~ and the larger the fandom the more crazies.

I'm indifferent about the new series; I like that they revived it, I like the new series, I like how it's brought more fans into the series. I dislike how bringing more fans into the series means a lot more fantards.

I want to watch classic Doctor Who so badly, but I can't find it anywhere on the internet and I am a poor college student, so I couldn't possibly afford buying it on DVD.

But I can see how annoying some of the new fans are, I honestly can.

Why do people have to complain about Martha? Honestly? She's awesome, and in no way does she break up the OMG ROSE AND DOCTOR OTP. She deserves more love than she gets.

I'm in a similar situation. I was brought in on New Doctor Who and spent a long while trying to find some Classic.

There used to be websites, like tv-links.co.uk that had stuff, but it crashed recently. All I can offer to you is youtube; they've got some classic episodes (definitely not all), and if you can remember arc names, you can find them.

I've been muchly wanting to watch some of five.

Eh. I don't like Martha much. Nothing to do with the Rose/Doctor (though I will readily admit that it's my favorite pairing since...I dunno, Han/Leia or Zoe/Wash). She's cool and all, but she's just...she's too posh and polished. She reminds me, both in looks and mannerisms, of certain girls who made my life a little more difficult, and/or always made me feel inadequate.
And I do hate how in almost every episode, she feels the need to sigh and look sad about how she loves the Doctor and he doesn't love her. As someone who's been in that situation so many times, it just got annoying to see her take so long to get over it, and it made me feel like she was a little...stuck-up, almost, because she wanted/expected the Doctor to love her back, even though he'd made it clear that he'd very recently lost someone important to him, and wasn't quite over it yet. I don't really know how to explain it.
And that's not to discount the amazing things she did. I mean, I have to respect her for all the stuff she went through, from demeaning undercover work to getting a job to walking across the friggen Earth. I just can't like her very much.

Sorry...been needing to get that off my chest.

I sympathize entirely with your DVD dilemma. Have you tried going to your library? I lucked out, and the local branch had a DVD from the 4th Doctor and another from the 2cd. And I apparently fall into a minority in that the 2cd Doctor won my heart so much more quickly than 4 ever did.
