The occasional 'fucking insane' old-timers don't dominate the entire fandom, though, or make it difficult to discuss anything else.

The OP doesn't say you're stupid if you like the new stuff, or that the new stuff is bad. Just that a lot (not all, but a lot) of the new fans are obnoxious fanbrats. This is a common problem in a variety of fandoms.
