I still sometimes open my dead fic bookmark folder to check on fics that have not updated in years. ;_;

I have a few dead fics I keep looking in on because it's occasionally worth it. One of them actually updated with a massively long new chapter after two years. I was amazed and delighted. More recently an author returned to the fandom and decided to rewrite my favorite of their fics, it's a bit different (a little disappointing because they took out the pairing I read the first story for) but the quality is better and the story will be longer this time.

The opposite happened to me: back in my HP fandom days, I kept faithfully checking to see if this one long fic would update, and lo and behold, one day it did! And I settled down with some hot chocolate for what I expected would be a terrific read...and not only did the chapter read like it was phoned in, but it was full of surprise!characters bashing. I never checked for updates again, and ended up wishing I had just forgotten about the fic and had never seen this shitty chapter.

I do this tooooo...

I know I should just let them go but... I have hope man.

One of the WIPs I was following finally updated with the final chapter almost a year later. The wait was worth it but there are many other fics I have little hope for because the authors have gone MIA. :(
