I just started writing in a new fandom, and I want to post my first chapter, but I write pretty slow so I'm scared of making people mad about slow updates. :( If I wait until a story's finished to post it, I tend to wind up posting anually. I suck at writing.

Op: Aw, I'm sure you don't suck, and don't be scared to post just because you write slow. I write slow too and follow fics by lots of people who do. Maybe you could have in your author's notes or profile that you update slowly so people can be forewarned?

Like I said, I don't mind slow posts, I'm just a bit frustrated that ALL of the WIP's I'm following haven't updated for a while.

Hey, do whatever works for you. There are people who update every 2-3 days, people who update weekly, people who update bi-weekly and even people who post 50k-90k novels every one or two years. If you note that your updates will be slow or that a new chapter will not be up until a month later, people generally understand.

The only times I've seen readers getting wound up were when authors miss their self-imposed deadlines without any reasons or any notifications in advance. If authors warn their readers ahead of time that they are sick or they are busy with school or work or other RL commitments, people are pretty gratious and encouraging about it.
