I didn't get into my first choice grad program. Just tell yourself, 'Fuck them, I'm awesome.' And then go and take your awesomeness somewhere where it will be properly appreciated.

Thanks, I know a lot of people don't get into their first choice but they still are able to keep their head up. Trying to think of it that way. But this was the first school I've heard back from, and I didn't apply to that many, so I'm kind of panicking and wondering what I'll do if I didn't get in anywhere.

I realize I'm late to the party here, but don't give up hope!

When I applied to grad schools, my first *three* responses (out of 6 or 7 applications) were rejections, and it was like 2 months before I got an acceptance anywhere. It was... disheartening, to say the least. But then I got in to 2 schools, both of which were good options. And the one I ended up going to lead to me making an awesome group of friends, doing neat research, and I got a damned good job right out of school.
So basically, just because you didn't get in to your first choice school, or just because you start off with rejections, doesn't mean it won't work out!

And if you are really set on this one school, for whatever reason, you can always reapply. Especially if you do something in the interval to show commitment to the research you'd be doing, it can definitely give you a boost to indicate that you'll work harder than the other applicants, since you want it bad enough to keep trying.

Thanks a lot for your comment. I know it's important to keep this in perspective, and that there isn't only one path out there. I appreciate your story, thanks. :)
