(Anonymous) 2014-01-16 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)When I applied to grad schools, my first *three* responses (out of 6 or 7 applications) were rejections, and it was like 2 months before I got an acceptance anywhere. It was... disheartening, to say the least. But then I got in to 2 schools, both of which were good options. And the one I ended up going to lead to me making an awesome group of friends, doing neat research, and I got a damned good job right out of school.
So basically, just because you didn't get in to your first choice school, or just because you start off with rejections, doesn't mean it won't work out!
And if you are really set on this one school, for whatever reason, you can always reapply. Especially if you do something in the interval to show commitment to the research you'd be doing, it can definitely give you a boost to indicate that you'll work harder than the other applicants, since you want it bad enough to keep trying.
