You are right about that, but it doesn't stop writers who fail to see that from turn him into such for the sake of what silly plot they have.

I've seen Galadriel turned into a raging elitist bitch in fic for the sake of having someone to push Elrond in his marriage to Celebrían when the feature pairing of the fic puts Elrond with someone else.

But then I like to think my tastes have improved greatly since then. I read some pure crap back then that I would drop like a hot rock these days.
