I do the same thing, anon, particularly when an actor has been in a superhero movie.

This reminds me of the line Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway had discussing Les Mis at an awards show: "Wolverine is being chased by Gladiator. Catwoman gets knocked up and, for some ungodly reason goes to see Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter and Borat. Then Wolverine agrees to raise Catwoman’s baby, and she grows up to star in Mamma Mia."

I would actually want to see that movie more than see Les Mis, lol.

This is literally perfect.

I remember that! It was brilliant. (And agreed. Les Mis was good but...that, that would be the absolute best movie.)

I don't know why, but I saw that clip and just thought it was annoying. Dunno.

Anything is automatically improved by adding Bellatrix. She brings Good Things to Life. (And then she crucio's them but you can't have everything.)

I really like this and since this is Guinan almost anything is possible. Headcanon accepted. Now to fit Sister Mary Clarence in there.

Fifteen or so years prior she was working as a singer and had to go into witness protection? Maybe the time she helped those kids in the catholic school is what made her decide to change careers and be a guidance counselor. Backgrounds in both entertainment and counseling helped her learn how to be a better sympathetic ear.

I do this as well, and have even thought about making a secret about it! You beat me to it.

But why did Deep Throat pretend to be a lawyer in Chinatown and help out Egg Shen?

And why did Cancer Man decide to go deep cover as the French manager of an internationally famous football team?

But why did Deep Throat pretend to be a lawyer in Chinatown and help out Egg Shen?

Because he was undercover, silly, collecting evidence on whether or not Lo Pan was actually an alien.

And Cancer Man always has his reasons, ours is not to wonder why.

I've been doing this as I've watched The West Wing for the first time because EVERYONE is on that show. Though I tend to frame them in terms of the character I knew first.

Coulson started out in the FBI.
Gibbs was in the Secret Service at one point.
Nancy was the head of a feminist group before she married the guy on Weeds.
Callie Duquesne worked did politics before she started on crime scenes.

But the best part is flipping between WW and Psych, because that's basically like watching Dulé Hill in a time vortex.

I do this ALL THE TIME. I love it. I have so many of them in my head. :)

Same here, anon. Before the third Batman movie came out, there were rumors about who the villain would be, and someone made a mock-up movie poster with Neil Patrick Harris as the Riddler (apparently it's a good day for Riddler references.)

After I saw Avengers, I couldn't help but headcanon Robin Scherbatsky in How I Met Your Mother was actually Maria Hill, going undercover in New York City to track down nefarious fraudster the Riddler, whose real identity is womanizing Barney Stinson. And then they become best friends and fall in love. There might be some Dr. Horrible mixed in there... and some Music Meister.

That sounds like a *lot* of fun, OP. :D

(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. My masterpiece was linking Ophelia from Hamlet, Rose from Titanic, and Clementine from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. (allowing for the issue of them living in three completely different time periods, y'know...)

I do this too ("Dude, Neil didn't die and became a doctor just like his father wanted!") and then recently-ish I saw an interview with a bunch of comedy actors, and Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) was saying that he hated it when people tweeted him when an old episode of NCIS he did comes up in syndication, because people tweet him going "Cam is a terrorist!" (or whatever) because he thinks people don't realize they're separate characters.

And I know a lot of people do have a really hard time separating character from actor, but never the less I was kinda miffed because it's a fun game.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I like connecting characters too, but I see where that actor is coming from, because it's got to be annoying if you keep hearing it over and over again. Like, as much as I like doing it with characters I like, and seeing it done with characters that don't usually get it that much, it's still super annoying when there's stuff equating Smaug/Bilbo with Sherlock/John, or Ten with Barty Crouch Jr., because it's just everywhere.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I do this with voice actors. The Federation is all part of David Xanatos's master plan.

I could buy that.

I've done this several times.
For instance in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, there was a scene where Lord Shen got Barty Crouch Sr to stop Sherlock from punching Bane!

Oh, yeah. One of my favorite movies is that one where Wolverine and Batman are locked in a battle of wits, but Wolverine gets Jareth, the Goblin King to help him, while Alfred tries to make him see reason, and the Black Widow is sleeping with Batman and (spoilers for whoever hasn't seen the movie). Oh, and Gollum is the Goblin King's assistant.

Or, you know, the Prestige.

I like to do this too. And so do a lot of other people.

I remember stories where Martin (Without a Trace) was Vin (Magnificent Seven - the ATF 'verse).

Honestly, it's almost a right of passage for Canadian-produced shows (and sometimes shows just filmed there). Also, if people ship two characters, sometimes you'll find bizarre crossovers of other characters the actors have played - for example, if you're into Due South's Fraser(Paul Gross)/Ray K(Callum Keith Rennie), you can find Gus(Paul Gross in Buried on Sunday)/Ollie (Callum Keith Rennie in Masterminds).

(Anonymous) 2014-01-17 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I do that all the time!

For example, American Hustle is a vague Marvel/DC crossover 70s con artist AU.

Also, a while back, there was a movie with a subplot about Jess Day being in a relationship with Ann Perkins, but she had a thing with Will Graham.

I love this so much. It's like playing with action figures from five different things at once. It's so freaking satisfying.
