I always wondered if there was a reason in the books that was different from the movies, because that did confuse me a little in the movies.

For now I'm going to pretend that Gandalf found out ~somehow~ that Bilbo going on the trip was important, but didn't actually know why.

(I know it probably doesn't work for the books, but I haven't read them, and I'm probably not going to- Tolkien just isn't my kind of writer, unfortunately.)

That is exactly how Tolkien explains Gandalf's choice of Bilbo. ;)

Oh cool! I'm not 100% up on Tolkien's mythos, so I wasn't sure if Gandalf was even capable of doing that. :3

(I mean, I know he's a Maiar (sp?) which is basically an angel? But like, I'm not sure what that means for him, power wise.)

You spelled Maiar right. :)

You sentence probably would have been better as "he's a Maia".

Maia = singular
Maiar = plural

(Compare to Valar/Vala, Valier/Valië, Ainur/Ainu.)

It's always a little tricky because this is for a different language.

Thanks! I actually did put down "Maia" at first, but I wasn't sure if that was accurate. |D I'll keep that in mind. :3
