I always had the impression Lobelia cared more about social status, with Bag End and family silver more as a symbol of how important her family was than for their monetary value (side thought: I wonder if she married up?)
When push comes to show, she is one of the few Hobbits who openly oppose Saruman, even if her own son was involved - and he is definitely in it for money
