It is my general impression that the percentage of distinctly spring-autumn love affairs in TV shows is much lower than in real life, but I admit I'm no expert when it comes to TV stuff. Books, now that I can talk about. Literature certainly does contain a kajillion tons of such storylines. If the Doctor were a primarily literary character, I would've been pessimistic about the prospect of his relationship with Clara staying platonic.

IDK, it may just be that I'm totally off the mark here. Need to do some research.
