That is a damn awful thing to lie about and I'm sure your brother is in a lot of pain right now. Anyone who lies about a topic like that has some major issues; I wouldn't blame your brother for ending their friendship.

I had a friend who lied to me for years (They led me to believe they were sick as well, though not with cancer; there were also other things) and eventually the relationship just fell apart. It's a shame that it sometimes comes to that.
