Eeeh, I'll disagree with that. From what I understood, Taki, Mi Na, Xianghua and all them had completed their story arcs. Of the original rosters, Mitsurugi was the original Protag and still hasn't completed his, Siegfried's struggle has ALWAYS been never-ending, Raphael's ageless, too, and actually a ghost (turns out his body is being used as the current Nightmare), Aeon's fate has been tied to the sword for a LONG time now AND he's an unlockable, Cervantes is undead, Maxi carries a piece of Soul Edge in his body and... has for awhile, Kilik isn't even a main character but a bonus character you unlock later, and Astoroth and Yoshimitsu are technically new characters with the same name because those names serve as titles.

Even then, a quick read-up says Mitsurugi is, storywise, only there to finish his fight with Algol, who is from only one game prior (and it makes sense--Mitsurugi is not the kind of guy to leave shit unfinished, and the ending to IV went with them not killing the dude), Kilik and Aeon are unlockable and don't even have much impact story-wise, Raphael's a weird as fuck case given his whole thing...

IDK. A lot more men may be returning, but from a writing standpoint, it seems more like they have an easier time letting the women have other lives beyond the damn hunt for the swords (which is a good thing). And it's not all about parenthood, either--Taki has no kids, Cassandra seems to have grown up and decided that the swords aren't worth it after what it's done to her family, Mi Na and Yun Seong BOTH don't appear, leaving the impression they found better things to do, Talim is presumably priestessing instead of fighting a neverending battle--which is the point to the sword, and it's in her to recognize that fighting for them won't really solve anything...

IDK. Maybe that's just my view. Also, we do have another word on Taki through a character in SCV: Natsu.

DA

This is a ridiculous effort, seriously. Sure, let's go with the male characters not finishing their arcs while the females have. Way to go!

I...don't you even see how that looks? That the male characters get to age onscreen in the game while the female characters get to leave young, allowing for new young females to cycle in?

They had completed their story arcs because they were designed to have done so, though - it would have been just as easy to continue them on, or to have something new take place. For instance, if Sophitia had actually stayed alive, I would have loved to see her get involved with her kids' stories - actually searching for Pyrrha, for instance, instead of having to sacrifice herself. Taki was already involved in Sophitia's storyline - she could have made an appearance as well, and not just have Natsu shoved in there as well (the storyline about 'oh she heard rumours and went on a faraway journey' just feels... like they couldn't be bothered designing a forty-something female character if they couldn't stick her in painted-on spandex).

Also, CASSANDRA. Oh my god, poor Cassandra. Randomly shoved in another dimension just so there wouldn't be an older woman in a storyline dedicated to her niece and nephew!

The only reason the existing female characters were said to have finished their stories is because they were written out that way.
