2. Beta readers are your best friend with this problem.
Even if they're just a friend who will read your fic and tell you their opinion before you publish it. Mind you, you don't have to agree with them, or even change the things they don't like -- it's just very valuable to have an outside perspective on a fic if you're not sure if your point is getting across, so you know WHICH places they go "wtf does this mean?" or see what possible glaring misinterpretations that never crossed your mind they might make.
