I'm in these movies for Bifur, Nori, and Bilbo, with maybe some Bofur and Dori on the side. In hindsight, possibly because there's slightly less looming tragedy with them, but also because the working/thieving joes push more buttons for me than the royalty does. (And I really, really wish there was more Nori/Bilbo in this fandom, because thief-&-apprentice really does it for me).

So, you know. Like who you like.

I like Oin personally. Medic-characters have always interested me. And Bombur, too. He's adorbs.
Outside the Company, well, I used to have a huge crush on Legolas back in the day, and I have whole-heartedly embraced its return. I wish there was more Legolas+Thranduil father-son -fic.

I could totally get behind Bilbo/Nori. There has been some prompts about them on the kink meme, but sadly no fills.

Oooh! I like Oin too. I read a fic a while back that had Oin training Nori (presumably on the basis that they both use big sticks). I need to find that fic again.

I never really connected with Legolas properly, though I did love his and Gimli's relationship in LotR. Most of my LotR days were spent crushing on Rohirrim and/or Faramir, and wanting lots of hurt/comfort with Merry and Pippin and their respective humans. Also Beregond. I liked Beregond.

I could go for Legolas-Thranduil family fic, though.

OP again:

If you find that Oin training Nori -fic I would love to read that! Sounds awesome. I tried to find Oin-centric fics once, but because everyone tags every single person of the Company in their fics, it's pretty hard. :(

Dunno, maybe people find thieving hard to write? Still. Sucks.

Gah! Sorry, I went looking for it, and I was misremembering slightly. It wasn't a whole Nori+Oin fic, it was a smaller section in a Ri-brothers fanfic: Dulce Et Decorum Est ( http://archiveofourown.org/works/726623?view_full_work=true ). The Nori & Oin section is in the first chapter, and then there's a bit of a call-back in the Nori & Gloin section in the fourth.

And I here ya on the naming everyone. I tend to do that as well, if they get even a half-decent showing in the fic, but it does make searching for things annoying. I tend to put characters more strongly focused on first in the tags, so I try looking for stories where the desired character is within the first three named? Still means an awful lot of scrolling, though.

Thanks for the link anyway! I'll check it out tomorrow. It's past midnight where I live, and I have lecture in the morning, so it's sleep time for me.

I name the most central characters, like those who get more than couple of lines and are important to the plot, and then just use the "Thorin's Company" -tag for the rest.

Back in the day of the first trilogy, there was a lot of Legolas - Thranduil family fics on FF.net. Maybe you could try your luck there? It's been a while, but there must still be something (good).
