Fun fact: If Mom is the observantly church-going type, tell her the mark of the Beast is actually the crucifix of ashes the priest plasters on her forehead at Easter.

...on second thoughts, don't tell Mom that; from what you've said before, I don't envision that conversation ending well.

The mark of the beast is a lot more metaphysical than that.

My church has a big belief that the big sign of the End Of Times is people being forced on pain of death into doing things that go against the Ten Commandments. The Mark of the Beast, as I have seen it defined, is when some agrees to do something either because they come to believe it (getting the mark on the forehead) or because it's convenient (getting the mark on the hand).

Tell her she takes the mark too literally.
